Message from Outgoing President Michelle Ochweri

As I reflect back on the past couple of years I’m completely proud and optimistic that as an affiliate we are heading in a positive direction to support procurement professionals in our area. This is something we should be proud of as leaders of this organization because without the involvement that each of you have given we could not have this success.
I feel truly blessed to have had the opportunity of being president of the Affiliate the last couple of years and working alongside such wonderful individuals. I’ve seen many of you dedicating your time and energy to help re-establish ISM – Columbia Basin and recognize without that dedication we would not be where we are today.
As a team we are offering networking that works, educational programs for all levels of members, and an environment that is welcoming to new members. As we look to the future it is my hope that we all continue to reach out to those who may not understand the benefits of becoming involved and mentor them so that they are able to experience all of the benefits of the affiliate.
Thank you so much for your continued support as board members and leaders in our profession.
One last thing: we will not be having a board meeting tonight because everything for this year is wrapped up. Mike will be sending out election information and more to come on the planning meeting scheduled for June.

ISM Leadership Workshop

We are just back from the ISM Leadership Workshop in Phoenix. The Leadership workshop brought together 140 affiliate leaders from around the country to discuss programs and improve our management skills.
Here are some snapshots of our leadership team participating in programs and networking with other leaders.

ISM has posted the workshop programs in the members only area of the ISM web site at
 https://www.instituteforsupplymanagement.org/MembersOnly/content.cfm?ItemNumber=29338

The workshop was held on Friday and Saturday prior to the ISM International Conference. The ISM Conference attracts over 2000 people in our profession and suppliers from all over the world. The ISM Conference is  an important educational and networking event.  ISM posted a series of video newscasts from the 4 days of the Conference on YouTube. IMO (in my opinion....):  Mike Taylor, C.P.M.

A very timely GAO report that ties directly to some of the topics we discussed at the May 12 dinner program.
http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-15-339

NARA, in consultation with other stakeholders, produced a plan to move agencies toward greater automation of records management. However, it did not include metadata requirements in its guidance, as required.

OMB was in the process of updating its Circular A-130 to include records management requirements for agencies when moving to cloud-based services or storage solutions. The agency expects to release the updated circular by December 2015.

Bottom Line:

As we discussed, there are risks in adopting new technologies. We can help our organizations mitigate those technology risks when we write contracts and purchase orders.

We'll talk more about this subject at the Pacific Northwest Purchasing Conference in Portland - (see below)
