Cyber Security

Dean Kovacks, Energy-Northwest

ISM-CB Program November 8.  Location: Applebee's on Columbia Drive just South of the Mall. We arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 with dinner service and then start the program about 6:15 – 6:30 and it runs about 40 min to an hour with questions and answers. Some of the topics that we are interested in are cloud security, recognizing cyber attacks, how to prevent them, different types to watch out for, success ad horror stories. This is a subject that has generated a lot of interest and as supply chain professionals we need to be aware of the issues and pitfalls

IMO:  (in my opinion....)  Mike Taylor, C.P.M.

On-Site Services?  What safety and security precautions do you take when contracting for services which will be performed in your facilities?

Consider what would happen if; a copier repair technician sexually harasses one of your employees, or a janitor inserts a thumb drive containing nefarious code into an unattended PC, or a delivery driver negligently crashes into as essential piece of equipment?

Even in simple service contracts, we are opening our doors and granting contractor personnel access to our facilities which could easily be abused (or worse). Examples: Do your current contract terms prohibit contractors form sending service personnel who are intoxicated? Do your contact terms require that contractors verify that personnel are legally entitled to work in the U.S.? Do your contract terms give you the right to send contractor personnel home who you believe to be unsafe at the contractor’s expense? Do your contracts prohibit contractors from subcontracting work in your facility without your express consent? Etc.

So what can supply chain folk do to better protect ourselves from risks when contracting for services that will be performed in our facilities? Here are some suggestions:

Pacific Northwest Purchasing Conference

Over 100 professionals heard world-class speakers, attended timely programs and networked at the Pacific Northwest Purchasing Conference. At the supplier showcase, we chatted with innovative companies and me representatives from 5 different educational institutions about their supply chain management programs. Participating in a regional conference, is a cost-effective way to stay in touch with our profession. Watch for the conference schedule next October and plan to join us.
