Professional Resources Online  - Mike Taylor, C.P.M.

In the early 1990s, references and resources started to become available online. This profoundly changed our profession. Catalog libraries and thick rolodexes were replaced as purchasing managers learned to find information online.  But the millions of documents and web pages quickly grew to billions. Now the variety and depth of available information can be overwhelming.

In this program we'll look at online resources I think are important for supply chain managers.

Join us May 9 at Applebees in Kennewick for dinner and a program.  5:30 p.m.  No-host dinner and networking. Program starts approx 6:45.   No cost to attend, non-members and guests are welcome.   RSVP required before May 8.   RSVP@ismcb.org

Effective Negotiation Seminar

ISM-Spokane is hosting a one-day seminar on Wednesday, May 24, 2017. This is a “must attend” workshop if you have anything to do with negotiating contracts for your firm, or try to anyway. The speaker for this workshop will be Mary A. Redmond “The FearLess Negotiator”. Mary explores the most commonly missed contract negotiation opportunities and shares success stories from the negotiation trenches.

Mary A. Redmond provides a unique and highly specialized set of skills to corporations and professionals responsible for negotiating contracts, maintenance agreements, and equipment or real estate leases. For 21 years, she negotiated on behalf of some of the world’s largest financial institutions including GE Capital, Mellon Bank, Ford Financial Services and Wells Fargo Bank.

The Registration Fee for this workshop is $169.00 for ISM members and $199.00 for non-members and that includes Mary’s DVD entitled Body Language Unlocked, continental breakfast, lunch and breaks. - For companies sending five (5) or more attendees - $20 off the regular price for each attendee.

Mary will also be the lunch speaker and the topic will be “Body Language: I Don’t See What You’re Saying”.

Details and registration information posted on the ISM Spokane web site http://ismspokane.org/

Register now as registration is limited to 50 registrants. All registrations must be received by Friday, May 19, 2017.

The Value of Participation   M Taylor, C.P.M.

Active involvement in a professional organization is a career advantage. Networking with other professionals, exchanging creative solutions to common problems and collaborating on educational events all accrue benefits directly to job performance and long-term career confidence. Even more benefit can be gained by serving as a leader. Practical experience can be gained in budgeting, leadership, management, project development and teambuilding.

There are many quality professional organizations to chose from. Unfortunately it's sometimes hard to justify the time commitment to management.  In this short presentation, I've shared a few thoughts about the value of participation and the rationale for investing the time.    The Value of Participation

Electronic Records & E-discovery
The following article was prepared by Mike Taylor, C.P.M., for distribution to ISM affiliate newsletters. Rev 8/28/2014

Does your organization use electronic processes in managing supply chain business? Do you email contract documents, use email to communicate with management and technical folks, share electronic files with users, store electronic records, post information on the web, keep in touch via smart phones and texting, etc.? I know many supply chain organizations that depend a lot on electronic processes.

The good news is that the electronic files are much easier to search than the old paper files. The bad news is that the electronic files are subject to legal discovery proceedings. That is, all the files, in all locations have to be made available for a legal search.

What we don’t know about the legal discovery process and issues associated with electronic records (generally referred to as e-discovery) is a liability and a risk. Supply chain managers should be taking the lead in educating themselves and their company on the issues and ways to mitigate the impact of e-discovery.
