2018-2019 ISM-CB Board of Directors

Leadership Positions Open to all ISM-CB members

ISM-CB will be conducting our annual Board of Directors election in the coming weeks. If you are interested in volunteering for a position on the board, or you would like to nominate another ISM-CB member for a board position, please let us know no later than Monday, May 14.

Participating in a leadership role on the board is not only a great way to expand your knowledge of the operations of our local association, but also to further network with purchasing professionals in our area. The idea of an additional commitment can be a little scary with our busy lives and schedules, but in reality, most of the time, the commitment is limited to a single meeting for an hour and half each month outside of the regular dinner meeting.

If you have a desire to participate, but can’t commit to a regular time schedule, please let us know and we can accommodate you and help you build on your career goals and objectives.

The Election of Officers for the 2018-’19 fiscal year will be held the second half of May with confirmation of election results on the evening of May 29, 2018.

Please contact me or any member of our leadership team to discuss how you can get involved.

Organizational Conflicts of Interest & Year In Review - 1/2 Day Seminar

NCMA Columbia Basin's Spring Seminar event is here! This hot topic, Organizational Conflicts of Interest, will be presented by Howard Roth and David Yang from the Law Firm of Oles, Morrison, Rinker & Baker LLP. An approximately hour long presentation, "Year In Review," will follow the Conflict of Interest training, creating a full half-day of training for a total of 4.5 Continuing Education Hours. All training will conclude by 1PM.

Avoiding OCI is essential to succeeding as a government contractor and as a supplier. This Organizational Conflicts of Interest training course is intended to provide both government procurement officials and those that sell to them with an understanding of organizational conflicts of interest. Common ways organization conflicts of interest arise in the workplace, whether as personal or financial interests or as gratuities, kickbacks, and bribes will be discussed. This training will focus on the guidance and requirements from the regulatory provisions in FAR Subpart 9.5, providing information on the different types of OCI including how to identify, avoid, as well as mitigate risk when an OCI is disclosed by either a contractor or supplier. Introduction to Public Procurement

The work of public procurement is no longer a clerical function performed independently by various people throughout different agencies or departments within a government entity. This class provides an overview of the ever-changing profession by identifying fundamental concepts that affect procurement in the public sector. Practical examples, discussion, group exercises and case studies will be used throughout the course.

Intended for individuals interested in an overview of procurement functions for the purpose of understanding the basic elements that underlie all areas of public procurement. Any government employee who has delegated authority to purchase goods and services on behalf of the government should take advantage of this class. Discussion and content is relevant for those outside the profession who are also impacted by the public procurement environment.
